Making the most of your weekend is crucial if you want to work well through the week.
When I first started work, I’d look forward to the weekend, but frequently wasted it by getting drunk. For some people this may not seem like a waste, but if you spend loads of money and can’t get up the next morning, I think that’s a waste. Especially if you do it on both Friday night and Saturday night. How much of the weekend will you be able to remember?
It’s even more important to use your weekends wisely if you work from home. It’s all too easy to work from home during the day, stay at home in the evening, then stay at home over the weekend. Working at home quickly becomes boring if you never go out. I’ll admit to not going out much, and I’m trying to find things to do that don’t involve staying in. There are a few ways:
- Walk the dog - I’ve put this at the top of the list because my family has always been into cats, and I never realised I’m more of a dog person. Dogs demand attention, I get bored easily, so I love dogs.
- Visit family or friends - we don’t know many people in the area, but this is a good option to get you out of the house - unless they visit you, of course!
- Shop - my wife is always bugging me to come shopping with her. Sometimes I go, sometimes I stay in bed. I should go with her.
- Go out for a meal - perhaps we should do this more. It can get expensive though.
- See a movie - I’m not a huge fan of movies, but watching James Bond on the TV is a much better option than staying online all weekend.
- Go to the beach - we live 10 minutes drive from the beach, so this is a good idea.
There are lots of ways to relax at the weekend. But a lot of things require spending money, and some people seem to do little else besides drinking alcohol. Spending too much and getting hungover are not particularly good ways to relax. Everything in moderation.
How do you relax at the weekend?
